A piece of racing history was created on 19th November 2011 when Darius Byramji saddled the 1000th winner of his career. Ask him which horse achieved this landmark and the 39 year old Bangalore based trainer laughs and says he is not sure. Quiz him further and he says that it was either Adalwin in Kolkata or No Doubt in Bangalore. He goes on to elaborate that while Adalwin won the 1.45pm race at Kolkata he had to face an objection from the second horse. While this was being deliberated No Doubt won the 2.00pm event at Bangalore and he

was even more fascinated by the sport. From the early age of 4, he used to accompany his father and younger brother (trainer Sanjay Kolse) to the track, and watch and absorb all that he could about horse racing. When his father retired from the saddle, and started his second innings as trainer, the young Nana Ragunath was a permanent fixture in the yard. Naturally, almost like a passing of the baton, he took up a trainer’s license in the early 80’s. His brother Sanjay Kolse, a trainer in Western India fondly remembers the two brothers starting out their careers...
