The Phoenix Beverages Maiden Cup 2008, the main race of the season in picturesque Mauritius was won
by Mr. Brock, and ridden by South African-jockey
Anthony Delpech, trained by Gilbert Rousset, and owned by Mr.& Mrs. Serge Seenyen.
The main racing event of the Mauritian horseracing calendar was run on 7th September 2008 in front of 30,000 enthusiastic race-goers. The Phoenix Maiden Cup run over 2300m had much to attract in the hot favorite, Mr. Brock. Winner of the Supertote Golden Trophy, the Gilbert Rousset’s -trained 5-year-old, had a 17-year old myth to surpass. No horse which had won the Supertote Golden Trophy had also won the Maiden Cup. Yet, Mr. Brock came with no fear of myths. He came with one Anthony Delpech, who rode him to a very impressive win.
