HAMMERSTEIN [GB] (b, 1993, by Kris out of Musical Bliss, by The Minstrel).
Standing at Krishna Stud Farm in Tohana, Haryana.
Although a modest performer on the track, Kristal Rock[GB] (by Kris) proved quite a useful servant to Chettinad Stud, even though that establishment is quite far away from the major broodmare populations in the country. Now another son of Kris in Hammestein[GB] will attempt to make an impact on the national scene. One thing in his favour is that he has a better performed dam than his paternal half-brother – Musical Bliss who won the General Accident 1000 Guineas (Gr.1) at Newmarket for Sheikh Mohammed, when trained by (Sir) Michael Stoute in Newmarket.
Apart from Hammerstein [GB], whose performances are delineated below, the daughter of The Minstrel has also come up with the French listed stakes winner Muscadel (by Nashwan).
Bred by Sheikh Mohammed and racing in his colours, Hammerstein[GB] followed his dam into the yard of Stoute, who sent him out at two years to place second to Bijou d’Inde in the prestigious Acomb Stakes at York. At three, Hammerstein [GB] duly won his maiden over seven furlongs, then scored twice more the following season over a mile, once at Ascot and once at Goodwood.
Beaten just four lengths in the seven furlongs Gr.3 Hungerford Stakes at Newbury, Hammerstein[GB] was sent to Dubai where his finest moment came when he was runner up in an 1800-metre turf event, with Key Of Luck (sire of Budweiser Irish Derby winner Alamshar) and Bijou d’Inde following him home. Hamm- erstein[GB] also placed third in the Nad Al Sheba Mile, predecessor of the Godolphin Mile run on Dubai World Cup day each year. His best rating was 105.
As a beautifully-bred, talented and tough competitor on the track, who was still running at the age of eight, Hammerstein[GB] brings miler speed and a different branch of the Native Dancer line to North India. He is more than likely to turn out a most serviceable winner-producer.
