MUDEER [GB] (b 1995, by Warning out of Colorvista, by Shirley Heights).
Standing at Sans Craintes Stud Farm near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
The nostril of Saratoga Springs came between Mudeer[GB] and a Group 1 victory, not to mention an unbeaten career as a two-year-old
in England. Racing for Godolphin, Mudeer[GB], a product of England’s renowned Thoroughbred nursery, Meon Valley Stud, had earlier
been sold as a yearling at the Tattersalls Houghton Sales, Newmarket, for 350,000 guineas.
Trained by Saeed bin Suroor, Mudeer[GB] scored on his debut as
a two-year-old (seven furlongs) at Leicester, and repeated next time out over the same distance at Ascot. He was
then supplemented into the Racing Post Trophy, Gr.1, over a mile at
Doncaster, where, with Frankie
Dettori in the saddle, he was unlucky
to miss against Saratoga Springs in a race marked by some scrimmaging.
In third spot was Mutamam, who
subsequently won seven Group 1 races!
Immediately, respected publications like ‘Racehorses of 1997’ and James Underwood’s ‘Update’ started
discussing his classic prospects.
After all, he was rated joint
ninth-best two-year-old in the
International Classifications, 1997, ahead of Docksider, King Of Kings, Desert Prince, Croco Rouge, Chester House, etc.
Unfortunately, his hard race in
the Racing Post Trophy appeared to have affected him and he was not
able to reproduce that form at
three years, although he did finish on
the board in the Prix Lupin, Gr.1,
beaten just over two lengths. Sent to Dubai, Mudeer[GB] showed ability
in his morning track work, but it
was two years before he could be fit enough to race, although he was unable to recapture his form. His
trainer there, Satish Seemar, described Mudeer[GB] as a "game and brave horse", whom he just could not
get right.
Mudeer[GB] is a son of the
miler Warning (whose young
sons already demonstrating sire
ability include Piccolo, Bishop
Of Cahel, and Charnwood Forest)
out of Colorvista, half-sister to
Group 1 winner Cezanne and to the dams of Opera House (leading
sire in Japan), Stagecraft and
Kayf Tara.
