“THIS HORSE WILL MAKE
THE FARM PROUD OF HIM” |
 |
Satish Narredu could not have known how prophetic his words would be when he made this statement to the jamadar of Capricorn Stud Farm on a February afternoon last year, after he had bought the two-year-old colt by Tirol out of Silent Tale. Twenty months later the handsome bay colt, now named Super Speed, stormed home to win the Poonawalla Mysore Derby (Gr.1) and in the process gave his trainer, owners and breeder their maiden derby success. |

Satish considers Super Speed something of a lucky talisman and says “I have been very lucky with this horse from the start. I had gone to the farm to see another horse that I had bought when I saw Super Speed in the paddock. I spoke to Berjis Desai and he was kind enough to give me a good deal.” |
“I had no owners lined up but when I offered the horse to K.N. Ram Raju he immediately agreed to buy him. He put the horse in the names of his two sons, R. Anantha Cham Dev Raju and R. Cham Dev Raju, and they have supported me right through. I am extremely happy that I have been able to win a Derby for them. People were saying 'why do you want to enter the horse in classics', but I believe that if you don't enter then you will have no chance of winning.” |
| |
“It has been total team work right from Super Speed's syce, Mustakeen, to the boys Rajesh Babu and R.Koch, who rode him in work and the rest of the stable staff that led to this success.” |

Satish is now dreaming of more classic success with Super Speed who is being readied for a winter campaign in Bangalore with the 2000 Guineas and the Derby as the main targets. - Sanjay Reddy |
