ROYAL GLADIATOR (dk b, 1998, by Honour And Glory Goodnight Moon [GB], by Ela-Mana-Mou).
Standing at Pratap Stud Farm, Himmatnagar, Dist. Sabarkantha, Gujarat.
A got-abroad foaled at the Nanoli Stud, Royal Gladiator represents the In Reality branch of the Intentionally line, one which seems to be a great favourite with Mr. Rajendra Singh Idar, as his Pratap Stud stands three of its seven living representatives in India today.
Trained by S. Padmanabhan, the homebred proved a versatile sort, scoring from 1200 m. to 2800 m., his principal victory coming in the Kingfisher Colts Trial Stakes (Gr.1), at Bangalore, over the metric mile, where he beat Royal Liberator and Ansbach. He also won a trio of Gr.2 events, while his best “placed” effort was third (to The Pelican and Treasure Hunt) in the Indian Turf Invitation Cup (Gr.1).
His sire, Honour And Glory, is a most serviceable stallion, without being the most fashionable. He is presently in Argentina but when last seen in the Northern Hemisphere he shared his quarters with the better-known Fusaichi Pegasus, Giant's Causeway, Hennessy, Johannesburg, Thunder Gulch and Woodman at Kentucky's Ashford Stud. Amongst Honour And Glory's best progeny are Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies heroine Caressing, runaway UAE Derby winner Blues And Royals and Chilean champion All Glory.
Royal Gladiator's dam, Goodnight Moon [GB], is a daughter of the excellent broodmare sire, Ela-Mana-Mou, whose other successes in that sphere include White Muzzle, Rifapour, Belmont Park and Second Empire. The female family is that of Irish 1000 Guineas winner Front Row, also grandam of Gaswar [GB].
With only 9 representatives (the lowest amongst the stallions reviewed), Royal Gladiator is going to have his work cut out, but has the credentials to come up with something good.
