BRAVE ACT [GB] (b, 1994, by Persian Bold out of Circus Act, by Shirley Heights).
Standing at Kunigal Stud Farm, Kunigal, District Tumkur, Karnataka.
Back in 1997, Kunigal Stud had suffered a severe blow when their resident stallion, Bold Russian [GB], sire of Saddle Up suddenly became infertile. In an attempt to replace that stalwart, Kunigal has acquired another son of Persian Bold in Brave Act [GB], arguably a better-bred racehorse than his paternal half-brother. Starting off at Ayr (Scotland) in July 1996, the striking bay scored on debut in the hands of George Duffield. Wheeled back by his trainer, Sir Mark Prescott just a week later, he repeated. Later that season he took the Solario Stakes (Gr.3), at Sandown, his final start in the U.K. Over the winter, he was sold to Del Mar-based Sidney Craig, and turned over to trainer, Ron McAnally in California.
For his new connections, Brave Act [GB] went to the starting gate 23 times all except one on turf and came away with 10 wins all in Graded and Listed events and 9 placings. His admirable record includes victories in several of California's major turf events such as the Citation Handicap (Gr.2), and San Gabriel Handicap (Gr.2).
Bred by Side Hill Stud and Floors Farming, the earner of $1,546,269 is out of the Shirley Heights mare, Circus Ring, whose other daughter, Comic, is the dam of Hong Kong Derby winner Viva Pataca. This is the family of Tony Bin, Dibidale, Athens Wood, Reprimand, etc.
Retired initially to the Tally Ho Stud in Ireland, Brave Act [GB] has already sired Fearless Flyer, winner of the Natalma Stakes (Gr.3) at Woodbine, who recently fetched $ 105,000 as a broodmare prospect. As a talented and tough competitor on the track, with an admirable late “kick“, Brave Act [GB] brings a great attitude and heart to Indian breeding, and ought to prove highly effective when his offspring (there are 31 in his first crop) mature and stretch out over distances.
