ANSBACH (b, 1998, by Alnasr Alwasheek[GB] out of Pass The Secret[CAN], by King's Bishop).
Standing at Paramvir Stud Farm, Tohana, Dist. Fatehabad, Haryana.
One of only two Indian-breds on this list, Ansbach missed the (McDowell) Indian Derby, Gr.1, honours by a mere short head, thereby depriving his sire, Alnasr Alwasheek[GB] of a hat-trick in the 'Blue Riband of the Indian Turf' (one son, Storm Again, scored in 2001 while another in Noble Eagle shocked in 2003).
Commencing his career in Calcutta under the tutelage of Vijay Singh, Ansbach sauntered home by a “distance” on his debut, in the George Williamson Indian Produce Stakes, (Gr.2), only to be disqualified after a positive test. He kept up his winning streak in the Kalyani Black Label Million, (Gr.1), prior to relocating in the South. After a lean spell, he completed a classic hat-trick when taking the Mysore 2000 Guineas (Gr.3), the Kingfisher Mysore Derby (Gr.1), and the Harvins Bangalore 2000 Guineas (Gr.2). His winning run came to a halt when Wild Eagle easily pegged him back in the Indian 2000 Guineas (Gr.1) at Mahalakshmi.
During his second Monsoon, he won the Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Cup (Gr.3), before rising weights put paid to his winning chances. He was then retired to the Paramvir Stud.
The talented Poona Stud-bred is a grandson of Sadler's Wells and hails from the family of Epsom Oaks (Gr.1), victress Long Look. His dam, Pass The Secret[CAN], was bred by E.P. Taylor of Windfields Farm from the stakes-placed Buckpasser mare, Passing Look, dam also of Gr.1 winner Trumpet's Blare Gr.3 winner Passing Vice and top Canadian racemare In My Cap (herself grandam of the good-looking multi-millionaire Albert The Great, currently a sire at Three Chimneys Farm, Midway, Kentucky). Ansbach has a team of 15 to bat for him.
